The MEIS faculty group extends a warm welcome to our new colleague Persis Karim, who joins us from San Jose State University to lead the newly established Iranian Diaspora Studies Center, located in HUM 503. We are excited to have Prof. Karim on our campus and look forward to future collaborations.
- Mahmood Monshipouri on his two latest books: Information Politics, Protests, and Human Rights in the Digital Age appeared this summer with Cambridge University Press, and Inside the Islamic Republic: Social Change in Post-Khomeini Iran was published with Oxford University Press.
- Evren Savci, who co-edited Perverse Politics? Feminism, Anti-imperialism, Multiplicity with Ann Shola Orloff and Raka Rai. The book includes Savci's chapter "Subjects of Rights and Subjects of Cruelty: The Production of an Islamic Backlash against Homosexuality in Turkey."
- Lucia Volk, who published a chapter on Arab minorities in Germany in Laura Robson's edited volume Minorities and the Modern Arab World. Moreover, Volk received SF State's 2016 Distinguished Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching.
